1. A Stage for Sports

Singapore has a long history of sports. From Badang's contest of strength, to the rise of sports clubs and finally to the creation of an entire precinct of sports facilities at Kallang. Seen here is high jumper Lloyd Oscar Valberg. He was the first Singaporean to participate in the Olympic Games in 1948 in London. He foreshadowed the growing success of Singapore's sportsmen and women at the highest stage in the coming decades.
